About MEICC

The Mississippi Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium was created on March 12, 2008 by partnerships between Electric and Natural Gas Utilities, Nuclear, Industrial Construction, Utility Associations, Education, State Offices, Department of Labor, Workforce Investment and other affiliated or support organizations who are concerned with the emerging workforce planning issues affecting utilities. 


 

Our Mission

To engage electric, nuclear, natural gas utilities, energy industries and construction in strategic, unified, and results-oriented efforts to ensure a skilled workforce to meet future industry needs.

 


 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES 

·      Career Awareness and Outreach:  Plan and implement effective communications strategies that raise and create awareness among key audiences of the critical need for skilled technical workers in the energy and industrial construction field, promote initiatives designed to address objectives, and position the utility / energy industry /construction industry as a preferred employer of choice.

·      Funding Strategies:  Identify existing resources (federal, state, associations, and partnerships), determine where to make proposed long and short term investments. 

·      Policy and Education:  Develop and implement strategies to influence state policy to support and promote career pathways in schools, e.g. career and technical education, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship, and proprietary schools.

·      Untapped Labor Sources: Develop a recruiting pipeline from untapped labor sources to educate and train for construction and energy workforce needs.
